LUGHNASADH - AUGUST 1ST

A harvest festival to celebrate the first day of Autumn. It was, however, celebrated to ensure a good crop, not to give thanks for a good harvest. Games, competitions and marriages were the order of the day. Any marriage made on this day could be annulled after one year - thus giving the couple a trial period. The Christian Church turned this festival into Lammas, celebrating the first harvest.
